Speak to any fashion-forward woman in the Bahamas, and one of the first names she’ll mention is Phylicia Ellis. Only twenty-four years old, Ellis has interned in New York City with Victor de Souza and Mandy Coon, shown collections at Caribbean Fashion Week and Island of the World Fashion Week. It’s rare to find a designer who understands every woman’s body, as Ellis does. Her use of jersey knits, chiffon, and lace with impeccable hand-sewn details makes each piece she creates one of a kind. And she’s already branched off into a children’s line called Piper and Evali — there’s no reason twelve-and-unders shouldn’t be fashion-forward too.
