Founded in the early twentieth century — by a cowboy transplanted from Wyoming, according to one story — the Easter rodeo in Lethem is the social highlight of the year in Guyana’s deep south. Vaqueiros from across the Rupununi savannahs — and neighbouring Brazil — gather to show off their skills at bronco-taming, bull-riding, and the even more delicate task of wild-cow–milking.
