Designer Karen De Freitas has the Caribbean streets abuzz with her dynamic clothing line, Made by Soka. Her latest collection, inspired by dancehall, represents the strong and fearless Caribbean woman with structured vests, bold colours and prints, and an edgy verve. Determined to forge a path in fashion at a very young age, the St Vincent native loves experimenting with different fabrics and prints, evident in each piece she creates. From neoprenes and leather to organza and jersey, there is nothing this designer can’t touch without turning it to gold. She recently graduated from Parsons: The New School, where she earned a BFA in fashion, and she currently lives in New York City. She’s one to watch.
